'''יוסף אלכסנדר הלר''' (נולד ב-[[1941]]) '''(Joseph Alexander Heller''') הוא [[פרופסור]] [[אמריטוס]] ל[[זואולוגיה]] במחלקה ל[[אקולוגיה]], [[אבולוציה]] והתנהגות במכון למדעי החיים, בפקולטה למתמטיקה ולמדעי הטבע, ב[[האוניברסיטה העברית|אוניברסיטה העברית]] ב[[ירושלים]].
 
כיהן כראש החוג לזואולוגיה ועמד בראש החוג לאבולוציה, סיסטמטיקה ואקולוגיה. שימש עמית מחקר באוניברסיטאות: University of Cape Town, University of Bristol, University of Liverpool,
State University of New York at Stony Brook. בשנת 2009 פרש לגמלאות, וממשיך במחקר והוראה.
 
הלר הוא חבר כבוד של [[העמותה הישראלית לזואולוגיה]], חוקר במשך עשרות שנים את עולם החי של ישראל. מחקריו, בדגש על [[רכיכות]], כוללים תיאור מינים חדשים, תפוצה וגורמים המעצבים אותה, עמידות ליובש ולחום, [[חיזור]] ו[[רבייה]], דינאמיקה של אוכלוסיות, [[שריפת יער|שריפות יער]] והשפעותיהן, טריפה והשפעותיה, אבולוציה של עולם החי בישראל ופיתוח שיטות לשימור ערכי טבע. היה עורך כתב העת הישראלי לזואולוגיה [[Israel Journal of Zoology]], אוצר [[אוסף הרכיכות הלאומי]], והעמיד תלמידים רבים.
 
הוראתו האקדמית מציגה עקרונות וכללים של אבולוציה בקבוצות שונות של בעלי חיים, ברמה הבסיסית וברמה המתקדמת; היא גם עוסקת בתולדות החשיבה הביולוגית. ב[[האקדמיה ללשון העברית|אקדמיה ללשון העברית]], חבר בוועדה למינוחים עבריים בביולוגיה וכן בוועדה לשמות בעלי חיים (זואולוגיה).
 
כתב מעל מאה פרסומים ובהם שלושה ספרים.
