'''פרופ' אדם מזור''' נולד בפולין בשנת 1936, ועלה עם משפחתו לארץ ישראל כשהיה בן 3. אדם גדל ולמד בתל אביב, ולאחר השירות הצבאי למד וסיים בהצטיינות תואר בארכיטקטורה ובינוי ערים בטכניון בחיפה. מאז, ובמשך כ-50 שנה, הטביע פרופ' מזור את חותמו הארכיטקטוני והתכנוני ברבדים רבים ושונים במדינת ישראל. במסגרת עבודתו בטכניון חינך דורות רבים של ארכיטקטים ומתכנני ערים, והוביל רבים מהפרויקטים הגדולים ביותר, ובעלי ההשפעה הגדולה ביותר על תכנון האב של מדינת ישראל במאה ה-21 – כשהגדול והידוע מכולם הינו פרויקט "ישראל 2020". במהלך כל השנים, במקביל לתפקידו בטכניון, ניהל פרופ' מזור משרד ארכיטקטים ומתכנני ערים מהמובילים בארץ, והשאיר את חותמו באינספור מבנים פרטיים, מבני ציבור, מבנים צבאיים, שכונות, ישובים ותוכניות מתאר לרבות מהערים בארץ. אנו חושבים שבפועלו במשך 50 השנים, השאיר פרופ' מזור לא רק עדויות ארכיטקטוניות ותכנוניות רבות המעידות על תרומתו למדינה המתפתחת בה גדל וחי, אלא גם ביסס את התשתית התכנונית ומתווה הדרך לתכנון ערים בישראל במאה ה-21. המשכו של מסמך זה מפרט את עיקרי פועלו של פרופ' מזור במהלך 50 השנים האלה.
 
פרופ' אדם מזור סיים את לימודי הארכיטקטורה ובינוי הערים בהצטיינות בטכניון בשנת 1960. שנים ספורות אחר כך הקים את משרד הארכיטקטים "אדם מזור – מתכננים ובוני ערים" ואת "המכון לתכנון אורבני", ובמקביל, במשך כל השנים, לימד והרצה בפקולטה לארכיטקטורה שבטכניון. במשך כל שנות עבודתו שילב פרופ' מזור בין מחקרים פורצי דרך בתחום התכנון האורבני, פעילות ציבורית בתחום התכנוני הארצי במסגרת ועדות רבות בהן חבר הועדה הארצית לתכנון ובניה, ועבודה מעשית כארכיטקט ומתכנן ערים.

לתוכנית 2020, ולממשיכותיה, חשיבות רבה בהתוויית פניה של מדינת ישראל במאה ה-21. לעצם קיומה כתוכנית אב כללית לתכנון במדינה, ממנה נגזרות תכניות האב והמתאר הפרטניות, יש חשיבות עצומה בהתוויית כיוון קונסיסטנטי וקוהרנטי לתוכניות התכנוניות לטווח ארוך במדינה. תכנית זו השפיעה, משפיעה ותשפיע על פני מדינת ישראל בטווח שנים רחב.

Master plan for Israel for the 21 st century – Israel 2020.
 
"Israel 2020" : The Master Plan for Israel in the 21 st Century, is the most comprehensive planning research enterprise ever carried out in Israel. For over six years, more than two hundred and fifty leading professionals and members of the academic community in Israel, along with well-known international experts, collaborated on this large scale planning project. The project was jointly initiated by the Israeli Architects and Town Planners Association and the Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. It was further developed under the joint aegis of ten government ministries, as well as the Jewish Agency, the Israel Lands Administration and the Water Commission.
