== ביוגרפיה ==
מעוז נולד ב[[תל אביב]]. בגיל 12 הצטרף ל[[אצ"ל]], השתתף באימוני שדה והדביק [[כרוז]]ים בתל אביב. שירת באצ"ל עד קום המדינה. בשנת [[1952]] סיים את לימודיו בתיכון והתגייס ל[[צה"ל]] שם שירת ביחידה קרבית.
את לימודי ל[[תואר ראשון]] סיים בשנת [[1958]] ב[[האוניברסיטה העברית|אוניברסיטה העברית]] במגמת [[היסטוריה של המזרח התיכון]], שפה ו[[ספרות ערבית]]. הוא החל לעבוד כעוזר ליועץ [[ראש ממשלת ישראל|ראש הממשלה]] [[בן-גוריון]] לענייני הערבים בארץ בשנת [[1960]] ולאחר כשנה ב - [[1961]], המשיך את לימודיו
בשנת [[1966]] השלים תואר Ph.D בקולג' סנט אנתוני, [[אוניברסיטת אוקספורד]], [[אנגליה]], בהיסטוריה של המזרח התיכון, והחל משנת [[1968]] שימש מרצה ב[[האוניברסיטה העברית|אוניברסיטה העברית]] בירושלים. במקביל, החל משנת [[1971]], כיהן כיושב ראש ה[[מכון ללימודי אסיה ואפריקה]] באוניברסיטה העברית.

בשנת [[1992]] חזר מעוז לנהל את המכון למחקר על שם [[הארי טרומן]] למען קידום השלום, [[האוניברסיטה העברית]] ובמקביל היה חבר בוועדות המייעצות על יחסי ערבים ישראלים לראש הממשלה [[יצחק רבין]]. באמצע שנות התשעים הקים את [[העמותה הישראלית ללימודים בינלאומיים]].
בשנת [[1998]] כיהן כיושב ראש המרכז לחקר החברה הערבית בישראל ובשנת [[2003]] החל לכהן כיושב ראש עמית בדיאלוג היהודי-איסלמי בפורום של [[נשיא המדינה]].
מעוז הוא אב לשתי בנות - פרופ' יפעת מעוז וד"ר דריה מעוז וסב לחמישה נכדים
