על מאד נגזר [[עונש מוות]] בגין ההונאה על דנב V, אך הוא הצליח "להשאיל" ספינת חלל לפני ביצוע גזר הדין. הוא נמלט לכוכב לא מוכר, שהיה מאוכלס כולו על ידי אנדרואידים שתוכנתו להשמיש את אדמת הכוכב והחליטו ללמוד את אישיותו של מאד כמייצג את האנושות. בפועל התבטא הדבר בכך שהאנדרואידים טיפלו במאד ודאגו להגשים את כל מאוויו. מאד אף הוכתר על ידם לשליט הכוכב ששמו אף שונה ל"מאד" על שמו. מאד לא הורשה לעזוב את הכוכב.
 
מאד גיבש עם האנדרואידים עסקה לפיה הוא יספק להם בני אדם אחרים ללמוד, וכך, ב-2268, שיווק מאד את ה''אנטרפרייז'' לאנדרואידים כספינה שמכילה דוגמאות מעולות של בני אדם. מאד לא היה מודע לכך שמטרתם האמיתית של האנדרואידים הייתה להשתלט על הגלקסיה, להפוך את הגזעים האורגניים לתלויים בהם וכך לבסוף לשעבד אותם. לבסוף התחזה אנדרואיד בשם נורמן לאיש צוות ב''אנטרפרייז'', השתלט על הספינה והוביל אותה לכוכב מאד. צוות האנטרפרייז זיהה שנורמן הוא שליטם של כל האנדרואידים, בלבל אותו בהתנהגות לא הגיונית ששרפה את מעגליו ואפשרה להם להימלט. לאחר שהאנדרואידים תוכנתו מחדש ננטש מאד על הכוכב כדוגמה לכישלון אנושי, יחד עם חמש מאות העתקים אנדרואידים של אשתו הצווחנית, סטלה.
Mudd then attempted to broker a deal where he would be allowed to escape if he provided the androids with other prime Human specimens to study. Therefore, in [[2268]], Mudd identified the starship ''Enterprise'' to the androids as a likely source of exceptional examples of Humanity. (Mudd had no idea at the time that the androids instead planned to take over the galaxy and make all [[organic]] sapient races so totally dependent on them that they could effectively enslave these races.) Subsequently the android known as [[Norman]], posing as a member of the ''Enterprise'' [[crew]], successfully took control of the ship and took it to the planet Mudd. The crew of the ''Enterprise,'' however, was able to escape captivity by identifying Norman as the control for all of the planet's androids. The crew proceeded to confuse Norman with [[logic|illogical]] behavior, causing him to break down. After the androids were reprogrammed, Mudd was left behind on the planet as an example of a Human failure – along with five hundred uncontrollable android replicas of his shrill wife Stella for company.
