פייר אדו
פייר אדו (Pierre Hadot; 21 בפברואר 1922, ריימס - 24 באפריל 2010, אורסיי) היה פילוסוף והיסטוריון צרפתי אשר התמחה בפילוסופיה של העת העתיקה. היא כיהן כפרופסור בקולז' דה פראנס ופרסם מחקרים וספרים רבים. בין השנים 1964 ל-1986 כיהן כמנהל בית הספר ללימודים גבוהים במדעי החברה (École des hautes études en sciences sociales, EHESS).

נולד בריימס שבצרפת וקיבל חינוך קתולי בילדותו, אשר השפיע רבות על עיצובו ובהדרגה פנה אל הפילוסופיה. הוא התעניין בהגותו של ז'אק מריטין ובזרם ה"תומיזם" שהושפע מתומאס אקווינס; וכמו כן, הושפע מהספר Grammar of Assent של איש הכנסייה הקתולית ג'ון הנרי ניומן. באמצע שנות הארבעים למד בסורבון ואז החל להתעניין במרקסיזם, אקזיסטנציאליזם ובפילוסופיה של אנרי ברגסון, וכן בכתביהם של מישל דה מונטן ושל ריינר מריה רילקה. בשנות החמישים התמקד בפילוסופים: לודוויג ויטגנשטיין, מרטין היידגר וניקולאי ברדייב וכן בהוגי הדעות של תחילת הנצרות הלטינית, אחר כך חקר את אפלטון ואת הגישות של הנאופלאטוניזם. לקראת שנות השמונים החל לחקור את האסכולה האפיקוראית ואת האסכולה הסטואית.
בשנת 1961 סיים את לימודיו בבית הספר ללימודים גבוהים במדעי החברה וכעבור שלוש שנים נבחר לנהל את המוסד. בשנת 1982 נבחר לעמוד בראש הקתדרה ללימודי המחשבה ההלניסטית והרומית בקולז' דה פראנס. בשנת 1991 הוא פרש מתפקיד זה והפך לפרופסור של כבוד בקולז'. בהרצאה האחרונה שלו ב 22 במאי של אותה שנה הוא סיכם: "בסיכומו של דבר, על החשוב ביותר אנו בקושי יכולים לדבר".
