Cysts and solid tumors of the hymen havebeen described, but they are excessively rare. Imperforate Hymen.—The opening in the hymen may be ex-tremely minute and yet pregnancy may ensue. A case has beenrecorded by H. L. Horton (Boston Med. and Surg. Jour., vol. 82,p. 33) of a patient who was in labor with a hymeneal openingmeasuring only one-sixteenth of an inch in diameter. From themost recent researches the view has gained ground that imper-forate hymen is a misnomer, the condition being one really ofatresia of the vagina, for in many of the cases recorded after theliberation of retained menses a hymen has been found outside theobstructing membrane.
