ג'ק גודי

סר ג'ון (ג'ק) רנקין גודי (באנגלית: John (Jack) Rankine Goody;‏ 27 ביולי 1919 - 16 ביולי 2015) היה אנתרופולוג חברתי בריטי. שימש כפרופסור באוניברסיטת קיימברידג' ונבחר כעמית באקדמיה הבריטית ב-1976, והיה חבר חוץ של האקדמיה הלאומית למדעים (ארצות הברית).

קורות חיים

גודי גדל בוולווין גרדן סיטי, שם הוא למד בבית ספר סנט אלבן. הוא נרשם לסנט ג'ון קולג' באוניברסיטת קיימברידג' על מנת ללמוד ספרות אנגלית ב-1938, שם הוא התוודע לאינטלקטואלים שמאלנים כמו אריק הובסבאום.

הוא נלחם בצפון אפריקה במלחמת העולם השנייה, נשבה בידי הגרמנים ושהה שלוש שנים כשבוי מלחמה במחנות מעצר.

אחרי שקרא את הספר Golden Bough של פרייזר ואת ויר גורדון צ'ילד, הוא עבר ללמוד ארכאולוגיה ואנתרופולוגיה והוא סיים את לימודיו האקדמיים ב-1946. לאחר עבודת שדה ב-Gonja בצפון גאנה, הפנה גודי את מוקד מחקריו באופן הולך וגובר למחקר השוואתי של אירופה, אפריקה ואסיה.

בין 1954 ל-1984 הוא לימד אנתרופולוגיה חברתית באוניברסיטת קיימברידג' ושירת כפרופסור המופקד על קתדרה ויליאם וייס לאנתרופולוגיה חברתית בין 1973 ל-1984. הוא נבחר כעמית באקדמיה הבריטית ב-1976 וגם קיבל תואר אבירות מהמלכה. הוא נשא את הרצאות לוס באוניברסיטת ייל בסתיו 1987.

גודי היה חלוץ באנתרופולוגיה השוואתית של האוריינות, ניסה לאמוד את התנאים המוקדמים שהביאו והשפיעו על הכתיבה כמו הטכנולוגיה. הוא גם כתב רבות על ההיסטוריה של המשפחה ועל האנתרופולוגיה של הירושה. בשנותיו האחרונות הוא כתב על האנתרופולוגיה של הפרחים והאוכל.
