In this page, requests for username changes on the Hebrew Wikipedia are written, and the bureaucrats fulfill the requests according to Wikipedia policy. Please check the Username policy on the English Wikipedia to see if your desired username is considered to be appropriate.

Instructions

To add a request, EITHER: Click this link and then replace the text "CURRENT" with your current username (without square brackets or the words "User" and "משתמש"), "NEW" with the username to which you wish to be renamed, and "REASON" with the reason for this change, but do not add anything in the "subject/headline" or "נושא/כותרת" box. OR; Copy the following text and paste it at the very bottom of the page: {{subst:Renameuser|CURRENT|NEW|REASON}}~~~~ Replace the text "CURRENT" with your current username (without square brackets or the words "User" and "משתמש"), "NEW" with the username to which you wish to be renamed, and "REASON" with the reason for this change. Be sure you have logged in under your current username and verify that you have spelled both names correctly before saving the page. Check back periodically to see whether additional information is required. Do not be surprised if you suddenly cannot log in to your old account; this merely indicates that your request has been fulfilled and that you should use your new name from now on. Please note, due to technical restrictions, usernames must begin with a capital letter and not contain underscores.

Effects of a username change

• When the rename has been completed, you will not be able to log in under your old name, but only under your new name.
• Your account will have been completely renamed, and any contributions you have made (including deleted contributions) will be reattributed to your new account.
• Your account preferences, password and watchlist contents will not be changed.
• Your user page, user talk page and all their subpages will have been moved to the new name.
• This change will not affect signatures you have already left on other pages. Those pages will continue to display your old username.
• Be aware: Once you have been renamed, your old account will no longer exist and may potentially be recreated by a third party. This is true even if your old account pages have been redirected towards your new account. To guard against impersonation, you may wish to recreate the old account yourself.

Notes

• The process responsible for reallocating old contributions may lengthen, and therefore you may find contributions appearing in the old user's contributions rather than the new one's; this is perfectly normal. Updates should take several hours (at most a day) to complete.
• It is not possible to rename users who have done over 200,000 edits. To check the number of edits you have done, enter the preferences page and check the number in the line "Number of edits"/"מספר עריכות", below the user name and ID.
• It is not possible to rename accounts which have already been merged to the Single User Login. You can request to delete this account in the appropriate meta page.
• It is not possible to change a user to a name already exists in Single User Login, even if it doesn't exist yet in this wiki site. You can use the page Special:GlobalUsers to check which global usernames exist.
• It is not possible for bureaucrats to merge two accounts, or to reattribute edits from IP addresses. Only registered accounts can be renamed.
• This page is for requests on the Hebrew Wikipedia only. To change your username on another Wikimedia project, please use the appropriate page, such as the English Wikipedia page, ask a local bureaucrat, or use the meta page for wikis with no bureaucrat.
• As an alternative, please consider changing your signature. Another alternative is creating a new account and discontinuing the use of the old one.
• Account names requested here are regarded as being "reserved" until the request is accepted or rejected. If someone else registers the account while the request is here, it will be renamed if necessary to allow for the requested move.

Usurpation

Your request may include the "usurpation" of a username, meaning renaming an existing dormant account in order to allow you to adopt that name.

If you wish to request usurpation, please make sure first that the account you want to usurp has no edits or log entries (except in the username creation log) to qualify for usurpation (although the bureaucrats may consider rare exceptions where edits are few, old and negligible).
