A joint venture called Beiqi Yinxiang Automobile between BAIC (Beijing Auto), one of the four large state-owned car enterprises, and Yinxiang Motorcycle Group, launched the Huansu brand in 2014. Unlike the more expensive cars from Senova, another BAIC brand, Huansu focuses on cheap MPVs and SUVs. The SUV range currently includes the S2, S3, S3L, S5 and S6. The S2, S3 and S3L are all based on the same platform, the S3 is basically an S2L and the S3L an S2XL, stretched to the max. The Huansu S3 (including the S3L) is a sales success, unlike the smaller and only slightly cheaper S2. Huansu sold 15,187 examples of the S2 in 2014 compared to 48,506 examples of the S3, in 2015 Huansu sold 164,436 units of the S3 and just 16,653 of the S2, while in 2016 the gap was even bigger with 98,377 units of the S3 and just 4,124 of the S2.
