English: Original Captions: Western: "Fig. 10. Elevator House to lift the excavated clay that it may be dumped into wagons to be hauled away to the Lake Front."; Page's: "Fig 6: ELEVATOR HOUSE Used for lifting the excavated clay so that it may be dumped into waggons to be hauled away to the Lake Front."; Mines: "Fig 9. Elevator house." Additional inscription on the margin of the photo as shown in Western and Mines: "9-15-02 Illinois Telephone & Telegraph Co. Filling Wagons at Shaft No. 7" This image is a composite of all three published versions in order to eliminate printing and scanning artifacts. The table of construction shafts in Western, page 481, shows Shaft 7 at the corner of State Street and Eldridge Court (now 9th Street). The 1906 Sanborn Map of Chicago (sheet 83s) shows the shaft on the south side of Eldridge just east of State.
