മലയാളം: എന്കീസി എന്കോണ്ടി പ്രതികമകള് (19ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ട്) ഫീല്ഡ് മ്യൂസിയം, ഷിക്കാഗോ. ആഫ്രിക്കയിലെ ബകോംഗോ (Bakongo) ജനതയുടെ സൃഷ്ടികളായ ഈ പ്രതിമകള് തടികൊണ്ടുള്ള നഗ്ന മനുഷ്യരൂപങ്ങളിലേക്ക് ആണികള് തറച്ചുകയറ്റിയ നിലയിലാണു കാണപ്പെടുന്നത്. ബകോംഗോ സംസ്കാരത്തില് രണ്ട് കൂട്ടര്ക്കിടയില് യുദ്ധമോ തര്ക്കമോ നടന്നാല് തര്ക്കം തീരുമ്പോള് സമാധാനക്കരാറിന്റെ പ്രതിനിധാനമെന്ന നിലയ്ക്ക് നഗ്നമായ മനുഷ്യരൂപമുള്ളതോ മൃഗരൂപമുള്ളതോ ആയ തടിപ്രതിമകളിലേക്ക് ആണികളോ ലോഹത്തകിടുകളോ അടിച്ചുകയറ്റുന്നു. ചില പ്രതിമകളുടെ വയര് ഭാഗത്ത് ചെറിയ കുഴികളുണ്ടാക്കി അതിനുള്ളില് പൂര്വികര്ക്കോ ആരാധനാമൂര്ത്തികള്ക്കോ സമര്പ്പിച്ച ഭക്ഷണവും മറ്റ് നിവേദ്യങ്ങളും നിറയ്ക്കുന്ന പതിവുമുണ്ട്. ഈ കുഴികള് നിറച്ചതിനുശേഷം ഉള്ളിലെന്താണെന്ന് പുറത്ത് കാണാത്ത വിധത്തില് പ്രതിഫലനപ്രതലം പുറത്തേയ്ക്കുള്ള ഒരു കണ്ണാടി കൊണ്ട് അവ മൂടുന്നു. രോഗചികിത്സയിലും മറ്റും സഹായിക്കാന് കഴിവുറ്റ മന്ത്രശക്തികളുള്ള പ്രതിമകളാണു എന്കീസി എന്കോണ്ടി പ്രതിമകള് എന്നാണു ആഫ്രിക്കന് ഗോത്രജനതയുടെ വിശ്വാസം.
English: Nkisi Nkondi statues (19th Century),Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago. These statues are part of the Bakongo culture of the Africans. A naked human or an animal figure is carved in wood and nails, iron wedges or blades are hammered into the figures. Nkisi nkondi figures are often used as a contract of peace at the end of a war or a dispute and a nail driven into the figure represents peace in such cases. Some figures have a cavity carved into the abdomen which is then filled with food or medicinal substances and the cavity sealed with a mirror. Nkisi Nkondi statues are believed to have magical powers, especially with regard to healing of diseases. |
