דוד כ"ץ (היסטוריון)

דוד ס' כ"ץ (נולד בשנת 1953) הוא פרופסור אמריטוס במחלקה להיסטוריה כללית באוניברסיטת תל אביב, שם הוא לימד משנת 1978 עד לפרישתו בשנת 2019. החל משנת 2019 הוא מכהן כפרופסור אורח במחלקה להיסטוריה באוניברסיטת ברנדייס.

דוד כ"ץ נולד בניו יורק סיטי.

את תוארו הראשון עשה כ"ץ באוניברסיטת קולומביה, ואת הדוקטורט קיבל מאוניברסיטת אוקספורד בשנת 1978.

בשנים 2019-1978 שימש כפרופסור חבר באוניברסיטת תל אביב בחוג להיסטוריה כללית, וכיהן פעמיים כראש החוג. החל משנת 2019 הוא משמש כפרופסור אמריטוס.

בין שאר תפקידיו באוניברסיטת תל אביב שימש כמנהל המכון להיסטוריה של אירופה ותרבותה על שם פרד ו. לסינג וכמנהל המרכז לחקר התפוצות על שם גולדשטיין-גורן. בין השנים 2017-2011 נבחר כ"ץ על ידי הסטודנטים כאחד מ-14 המרצים המצטיינים באוניברסיטה (מתוך למעלה מאלף מרצים).

החל משנת 2019 הוא משמש כפרופסור אורח באוניברסיטת ברנדיס אשר בבוסטון, ארצות הברית.

בשנת 1993 נבחר כעמית בחברה ההיסטורית המלכותית של בריטניה.

תחומי המחקר של דוד כ"ץ הם ההיסטוריה של הרעיונות, היסטוריה של הדתות, היסטוריה של אנגליה ויהודי אנגליה.
