Yesterday I discovered two metalic signs screwed to the pavement of one of the main streets of my city. Both had the same inscription in Hebrew. I copied it but I was a bit in a hurry and I might have made mistakes. I think it said this:
פהל ואלדוליד
I can see that the second word is probably the name of my city (hurriedly mispelt!) but can somebody tell me what the meaning of the first word is? (in case it makes any sense(

Hi,
As you spelled it, the first word has no meaning in Hebrew. Phonetically it means "Fahel" or "Fahal" or "Faal".
The second world is the almost correct spelling of "Valladolid" (if it is said the way it is written). In Hebrew Google I found very similar spelling for the city (ולאדוליד). Using that spelling I found information about hotels, football team and film festival. Using the scribe spelling I found a story about a Rabay that lived there 800 years ago.

City in Hebrew is IR (עיר), very different from "פהל".
You made me intrigued. Please contact me after you would verify the spelling and I would make an in-depth search for the word.

"קהל" is theh hebrew word for audience or crowd -Pasteran 13:31, 10 אפר' 2004 (UTC)
To be more accurate, the text
קהל ואלדוליד
means "The community of Valladolid". The next question is why the Jewish community of Valladolid had put those metalic signs screwed to the pavement?
