אתוניזם, הידועה גם כדת האתון,[1] דת אל-עמארנה,[2] וכפירת עמרנה, הייתה דת במצרים העתיקה. היא נוסדה על ידי אחנתון, פרעה ששלט בממלכה החדשה תחת השושלת השמונה עשרה (אנ').[3] הדת מתוארת כמונותיאיסטית או מונולטריסטית, אם כי מספר אגיפטולוגים טוענים שהיא הייתה למעשה הנותאיסטית.[4] האתוניזם התרכז בפולחן אתון, אל המתואר כדיסקת השמש. אתון היה במקורו היבט של רע, אלוהות השמש המסורתית של מצרים, אם כי מאוחר יותר החשיב אותו אחנתון כמעלה על כל האלוהויות.[5] במאה ה-14 לפני הספירה, האתוניזם הייתה דת המדינה של מצרים במשך כ-20 שנה, ואחנתון התמודד עם הסגידה לאלים אחרים ברדיפה; הוא סגר מקדשים מסורתיים רבים, ובמקום זאת החל בבנייתם של מקדשים אתוניסטים, ודיכא אנשי דת. עם זאת, הפרעונים הבאים הפילו את התנועה לאחר מותו של אחנתון, ובכך החזירו את הדת הפוליתאיסטית המסורתית של הציוויליזציה המצרית. לאחר מכן נעשו מאמצים רחבי היקף להסיר מהרישומים המצריים כל נוכחות או אזכור של אחנתון, מקדשים אתוניסטים והצהרות על אל עליון ייחודי.
