ב[[התקופה ההלניסטית|תקופה ההלניסטית]] הייתה חלק מ[[האימפריה הסלאוקית]] ובהמשך הוקמה בה [[הממלכה היוונית של באקטריה]]. השלטון ההלניסטי לא האריך ימים ונפל תחת גלי כיבוש של נוודים ממוצא איראני. במהלך תקופה זו נעלם השם "באקטריה" מהשימוש והאזור איבד את ייחודו. האזור נכבש על ידי מוסלמים במאה ה-7.
